Goku didn't die. It was just filler. Wasn't in the original manga by Toriyama, so it never actually happened.

He didn't die and I'm sure because if he did, since they were using the earth dragonballs, he would not have been revived since goku had been revived once.

freeza never killed goku, the lava didnt hurt Goku at all, that part is actually filler, but i guess in the anime frieza just knocked Goku unconscious temporarily
